Avalanche: The Salerno Landings is a tactical simulation of the nine day battle for the beachhead at Salerno, Italy in September of 1943. The Allied commander will attempt to get ashore and stay ashore. The German commander will attempt to throw him back into the sea, or failing that, inflict maximum casualties on him. The German has only until the 17th of September to do so, as by then the British 8th Army, driving up from the toe of Italy, will arrive and force him to withdraw.The following components are provided with Avalanche: 1. Two topographical maps show the area over which the battle was fought. Each hex is 1300 yards. 2. Four sheets of unit counters. Each of these represents a military unit which did fight or could have fought at Salerno. 3. One set of charts consisting of four back printed cards. 4.
